What was your overall life before Pro Fitness?
Before Pro Fitness, I was generally active, but doing activities that didn’t really challenge me physically. I had been a runner, but knee injuries prevented me from continuing running as my main exercise. So, I resorted to walking, which was not quite enough to maintain my fitness level goals.
Why did you get started?
I saw an advertisement for Mah Ann’s Pro Fitness and her slim down transformation challenge. My co-worker and I signed up looking for a fun and challenging way to lose weight and get in shape. My husband joined with me, too, which proved to be a great partnership.
What’s your struggles and how did you get over them and focused on your task?
My biggest struggle was changing my mindset about how I viewed food. It used to be a reward, easily caving into cravings and then feeling guilty about what I had eaten. I now view food as fuel for my body, choosing clean foods instead of processed. I now think of food in terms of how much nutrition it will provide and find myself with fewer cravings.
What benefits did you achieve from this new lifestyle? (Physically, mentally, etc.)
Before I started Mah Ann’s classes, I didn’t realize the difference between being thin and being thin and in shape. I was tired all the time, making poor food choices, and was thin in clothes, but looked horrible out of them! I feel better now at 47 than I have ever felt! I love that I can do any activity from hiking/backpacking to kayaking and have so much muscle strength and stamina that my kids can’t keep up with me. I have tons of energy and look forward to exercising now. I love the way I look and feel.
Who was your support system and got you to your transformation/success?
My husband and I joined together, and we have supported and encouraged each other and continue to keep each other accountable. Mah Ann, Lisa, and our entire fit fam are wonderful. We celebrate each other’s achievements, encourage each other every day, and always push each other to work at 100%.
How is your current state (progress in health and fitness) helping you now with your daily functions, routines, life with family, friends, activities, etc? Biggest changes?
I am a nurse, working 12 hour shifts on my feet all day and averaging about 5-6 miles of walking each shift. My current fitness level makes my job easier. The biggest change for me is that I now look forward to exercising on all of my days off. It energizes me and actually makes me feel better all around
What would you say to anyone who’s on the fence about joining our fitness community?
Join us!!! I was worried at first about my ability to do some of the exercises we do in class because of my extremely arthritic knees. I quickly discovered that Mah Ann and Lisa always have modified exercises for any physical limitation and are so willing to help everyone find what works for them that there was nothing to be worried about. I’ve never felt the connections that I have with our fit family at any other gym or class I have been to.
